Coated paper (also known as art print or photo image paper) is a specially manufactured paper, which has a surface that is refined with a coating that can be either matt or glossy. This gives the paper a more refined, smoother and more stable surface, which enables a high level of detail reproduction and printing quality.

Glossy coated:
glossy coated art print paper is produced by adding a subsequent glazing. Glazing refers to the post-treatment of the paper in a calender after production, also known as calendering. The paper runs through several roller pairs, which have various hardness levels and are made of different materials. The "iron effect" which is created gives the paper surface more smoothness and shine. Glossy art print paper types ensure brilliant colour results and pin sharp contrasts.

Matt-coated:
The character of the matt-coated art print paper guarantees a reflection-free image reproduction with a colour reproduction rich in contrast and facilitates excellent legibility. Matt art print papter is used for more subtle printing projects and gives a refined impression.

Whether to choose matt or glossy coated are print paper is ultimately a matter of personal taste and application range. However, the glossy coated art print paper distinguishes itself with better processability and significantly shorter drying times (after printing) compared to the matt coated art print paper.
